ANGER and DEPRESSION
The Lord hears His people when they call to Him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalm 34:17-18
Anger and depression often go hand in hand. Disappointments in life can easily turn to anger, and anger which is not dealt with can lead to depression.
Even during the best of times, millions of people worldwide experience depression. A broad spectrum of depression exists, ranging from mild to severe. Depression can cause people to feel sad, angry, emotionally paralyzed and even feel physical pain.
The life of a follower of Christ should be a joy-filled life, but for many reasons that certainly isn’t always the case. When counseling a person experiencing depression, care must be taken to address both physical as well as spiritual concerns.
Anti-depression drugs may help a person “cope” with their depressive feelings, but in the long term, the underlying cause of the depression is often a heart issue. God’s Word speaks to those heart issues, and brings with it the hope of the Lord’s help and His comfort.
